Pink Peppercorns: Mild Spice with a Twist

22 October 2024

First of all, you may be surprised to learn that pink peppercorns aren’t really peppercorns at all. They’re actually the ripe berries of the Peruvian (schinus molle) and Brazilian (schinus terebinthifolius) pepper trees. However, they’re the same shape and size as regular peppercorns, as well as possessing a peppery flavour.

Pink peppercorns have a similar flavour to black peppercorns, but they’re milder, slightly sweet and very fruity. They’re also great for adding colour to your dishes.

Pink peppercorns contain antioxidants and antibacterial essential oils. There is also some evidence to suggest that pink pepper can support healthy blood sugar.
